COMMISSIONS

“Husky” 5”x7” oil on linen

Do you accept commissions?

Yes, I accept commissions on a limited basis. While I cannot accept every request, I am flattered by your interest, and I encourage you to contact me to discuss your idea.

How much does a commissioned painting cost?

It depends on several factors, including size, degree of finish, and practical considerations like framing and shipping.

In general, my commissioned work starts around $500, and goes up from there.

I like to think of painting as highly skilled labor. My work takes tremendous amounts of time and expensive materials to produce. You could pay someone else less, you could pay someone a whole lot more, but if you commission me to create a painting for you, I hope it’s because you think my work is worth it.

All that said, you will know the cost of your proposal before you agree to anything, and I sincerely withhold all judgement if you decide the price is not right for you.

How long will it take?

Kind of a long time. It’s obviously all relative, but if I’m able to accept your work, a typical turnaround time is anywhere from 2-4 months, with larger, more complicated work potentially taking longer.

My goal is to make every client exceedingly happy. If you have a deadline, please let me know, and we can discuss what is possible.

But bear in mind oil paint takes a minimum of 3-4 weeks to dry before it can be varnished, framed and shipped. So I like to say 6 weeks is truly the bare minimum in terms of potential turnaround time.

I’m interested…what should I do?

You should click HERE and either fill out the form or send me an email. Tell me what you’re interested in. Is it a pet portrait? A painting of your mom’s favorite flower? A landscape from the best vacation you ever took? I’m open to considering every idea, and I’d like to hear from you.

Maybe you aren’t entirely sure about exactly what you want. That’s fine; we both bring something to the table, and the best work is usually collaborative. I will offer you my expertise, and we will arrive at something great together.

In some cases, I will ask you to provide reference photos. Don’t worry if they aren’t perfect; I’m a painter, not a photocopier. While the quality of reference material matters, I can generally work with what you provide.

From there, I will lead you through the conversation as we gather pertinent info such as approximate size, budget, style and deadline. Once I feel we are on the same page, I will send you a proposal which will include total cost (generally including framing and shipping), and promised delivery date.

If everything looks good, a 50% deposit is all it takes to secure your commission’s place in my studio. Once the painting is completed, dried, varnished and framed, the remaining balance will be due, and I will ship your work, fully insured, through a major carrier.
